Juventus are progressing in their efforts to sign Jonathan David, with negotiations described as “positive and continuous” as the club looks to revamp its attacking options ahead of the 2024/25 season. The rumour, reported by several Italian outlets, centres around David’s contract situation—his deal with Lille expires on June 30, 2025, and he has confirmed his departure as a free agent.
Juventus view the potential arrival of David as a reward following their qualification for the Club World Cup. Key club figures have been directly involved: Lille’s director Damien Comolli was in Orlando, where Juventus are training, to discuss the transfer further. Sources indicate new contacts are expected soon, as an agreement appears ever closer.
On the financial side, Juventus are reportedly set to offer David a salary of €6 million per season, plus bonuses. While the primary contract terms have been outlined, the negotiations are now focused on finalizing the signing bonus and, critically, agent commissions. The gap between Juventus and David’s entourage still amounts to several million euros, particularly regarding commission expectations.
David, who turned in a standout season for Lille with 25 goals and 12 assists across 49 appearances in all competitions, has established himself as a versatile attacker—equally capable as a centre-forward or working alongside a striking partner. He was particularly influential in Ligue 1, netting 16 times during the domestic campaign.
The Canadian striker has expressed a clear preference for a move to Turin, reportedly instructing his representatives to prioritize an agreement with Juventus. David himself has stated he has no binding commitments with either Juventus or Napoli, though he acknowledged Napoli as an ambitious club.
For Juventus, David’s signing would serve as a first step in their planned restructuring of the attack. The club’s financial context is a major consideration, with the free transfer route appealing as it allows greater flexibility—especially with ongoing talks regarding the potential renewal of Randal Kolo Muani’s loan from Paris Saint-Germain and the unresolved future of Dusan Vlahovic. Vlahovic’s high salary, believed to be in the region of €12 million per year, remains a significant obstacle for the club’s transfer plans. Juventus have explored offloading him to free up funds, but the Serbian striker has so far been reluctant to depart.
The pursuit of Jonathan David comes amid interest from other clubs, including Napoli, and final approval hinges on resolving the outstanding agent commission issue. Juventus fans appear cautiously optimistic about the move, seeing David as a profile who fits their current needs. The club is also considering Jadon Sancho as an alternative should negotiations for Francisco Conceicao stall.
David leaves Lille after five seasons, having established himself as one of the most consistent attacking threats in France, with a current market value estimated at €45 million. His exit has been confirmed, and the final decision on his future now depends on Juventus reaching an agreement with his camp in the coming weeks.
