Juventus didn’t right the ship right away after hiring Luciano Spalletti, but they have accelerated after the loss to Napoli, beating two rivals for a Champions League berth, Bologna and Roma. They have also fixed their standings in the top continental competition.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the point average under the Tuscan boss has improved from 1.27 to 2.18. The goals and the shots per game have gone up slightly, the tackles significantly, and the Bianconeri are allowing a lot fewer attempts on goal to their opponents.
Juventus have gained ground on the two teams they just defeated and are just one point away from the top four, while they were eighth when Spalletti took over. Per Corriere dello Sport, the boss wasn’t particularly satisfied with the final minutes against Roma, when they risked squandering their lead.
He was pleased with the performances of the starters, but there’s a dip whenever he turns to the bench. He was plotting to switch to a four-man defense initially, but he has found an XI he likes in a 3-4-2-1 scheme and won’t mess with what’s working. The manager has significantly adjusted his style during his hiatus and his time on the Italy bench, drawing inspiration from Gian Piero Gasperini’s high-intensity tactics.
The Old Lady probably won’t get much help from the January window. Instead, their schedule is pretty comfortable. They’ll face Pisa, Lecce, Sassuolo, Cremonese, and Cagliari next.
They are thin and still don’t have many certainties, but the shift in their mentality and play had started before the Napoli game. It’s never a good idea to look too much ahead, but they are much organized, commanding, and fearsome now.
