Serie A giants Juventus have renewed contact with the representatives of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez as they continue their search for a new first-choice shot-stopper.
According to Calciomercato, the Bianconeri have shifted their focus to the Argentine World Cup winner after accepting defeat in their pursuit of Liverpool’s Alisson Becker.
Juventus head coach Luciano Spalletti has made securing an experienced and reliable goalkeeper a summer priority.
Having achieved international glory with Argentina, Martinez is seen by the club’s hierarchy as the ideal candidate, thanks to his elite shot-stopping, composure under pressure, and leadership qualities.
Luring Martinez away from Villa Park, however, will require navigating a complex financial framework.
While Aston Villa’s board are open to a sale to help comply with strict financial regulations, the player’s asking price is still being negotiated.
Initial reports indicate Villa are seeking a transfer fee of around €20 million for the ‘fantastic’ Martinez after he came close to a move to Old Trafford last summer.
The main complication for Juve sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli is not the transfer fee but Martinez’s high wage demands.
He is reportedly seeking a net salary of around €7 million per year to move to Serie A. This would make him one of the highest earners in Turin, posing a challenge for a Juventus board looking to reduce the club’s wage bill.
As a result, Juventus are keeping their options open while maintaining dialogue with Martinez’s camp. The club are also considering Tottenham Hotspur’s Guglielmo Vicario as a viable alternative.
