Zinedine Zidane has sprung several surprises in his first France squad as he begins a new era as manager of the national team, with Pierre Kalulu included in the group.
Although Zidane named the likes of Mike Maignan and Adrien Rabiot in his squad, the former midfielder left out league winner Marcus Thuram. He also made several changes to the group, including the recall of Eduardo Camavinga, as the new era begins with a number of notable selections.
Kalulu did not make the World Cup squad and has not generally been considered good enough to play for Les Bleus because of the competition for places in the team. However, he has been a reliable player for the Bianconeri since the beginning of his time in Turin.
The defender has also been one of the standout performers for Juventus this season, giving him a strong case for recognition at international level. His consistent performances have now earned him an opportunity to impress under Zidane.

The selection represents an important opportunity for Kalulu as he looks to establish himself with the national team. He has previously been overlooked, but his performances for Juventus have now earned him a place in Zidane’s first squad.
France are entering a new era under their new manager, while the national team continues to compete at the highest level in international football. The team won the World Cup in 2018 and has continued to perform strongly in international competitions.
For Kalulu, the latest selection gives him the chance to challenge for a regular place and demonstrate what he can offer at international level. The right back position could provide an opportunity for him to establish himself in the squad and potentially earn international honours.
