Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli held talks with Manchester United regarding two players on Thursday, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Bianconeri took on Aston Villa in the Champions League last night. They played out a goalless draw at Villa Park after VAR cancelled out a late winner for the hosts.
Giuntoli was reportedly in Manchester at the same time and reportedly held talks with United and Manchester City regarding Nicolo Fagioli and Douglas Luiz.
The Turin giants want to offload the midfield duo to sign a new striker and defender in January.
The Red Devils recently appointed Ruben Amorim as their new manager. The Portuguese tactician has acknowledged that he is prepared to assess the current squad’s strength.
He is expected to rotate his options for tonight’s Europa League clash against Bodo/Glimt. Several fringe players could have the opportunity to impress the 39-year-old.
Meanwhile, there has also been speculation over who United could sign next year, but the club are unlikely to spend big in January due to concerns over Profit and Sustainability Rules.
United were previously linked with Luiz but are unlikely to consider a permanent deal.
The Brazilian has been out with a muscular injury since October, but he is anticipated to return next month. United are unlikely to propose a cash offer for the £46 million-rated star.
Fagioli has had restricted playing time under manager Thiago Motta. The 23-year-old is valued at £17m by Transfermarkt, but the Bianconeri are bound to demand more.
United have not made a permanent signing in January for some time. Amorim could ideally wait until the summer when he will have a huge transfer kitty to spend on his preferred targets.
