England’s displays have yet to match expectations so far under manager Thomas Tuchel, but captain Harry Kane has promised the Three Lions will be more “aggressive” in the future.
Tuchel has won four of his five games in charge of the Three Lions but have yet to hit top form.
Asked about growing frustration around performances, Kane admitted: “I think it’s understandable. Every game in this group up until now has been against a team that is happy to sit back.
“You have to be patient in those moments. We’ve had spells where we’ve handled it well and some moments we can improve on.
“As always you’re looking at areas to improve. I still feel like as a team we can get better at breaking down low blocks.
“Of course we would have loved to win those games by more goals but ultimately we’ve done what we had to. We learn from it and move on to the next one.”
Next up for England is a tricky test in Belgrade against Serbia. The Bayern Munich forward insisted: “Tomorrow we have to go with loads of energy. We have to make it as difficult as we can for them.
“We’re going to go aggressive. We’re going to try to be on the front foot.
“It’s not always the easiest thing to do, especially away from home with that crowd. But hopefully we can come out with that energy and really take the game from minute one.”
Asked about the identity of the national side under Tuchel, Kane maintained: “He is trying to be fearless. He’s trying to give us that energy where we go into any game against any opposition and play our way. I don’t think the games have been easy to show that so far.
“When you’re coming up against the same 11 men behind the ball, it can be a little bit frustrating.”
The striker continued: “We probably have not shown our best qualities. Also, there have been players from camp that are important players.
“Obviously Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, and John Stones was only here for a little bit. Players that play a big part in what we are trying to build.
“He (Tuchel) is happy with us and we are happy with the direction we are going. Hopefully we can show that in the game tomorrow.”
