FC Bayern wants clarity on its top star at an early stage. In the BILD podcast Bayern Insider, Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl explain why the Munich club is aiming to extend Harry Kane’s contract before the 2026 World Cup – and why Jan-Christian Dreesen could play a key role in this
Harry Kane is FC Bayern’s sporting figurehead – and should remain so in the long term. Although intensive contract talks are not yet underway, the strategic direction is clearly defined internally. „True,“ says Tobi Altschäffl when asked whether Kane should extend his contract before the 2026 World Cup. The timing has been deliberately chosen to avoid external unrest and create planning security

Altschäffl is also putting the brakes on exaggerated expectations. „It’s unlikely to happen right now in February,“ he explains. Instead, the right moment should be waited for. The decisive factor is not speed, but the result. The aim is to have clarity in good time before the tournament – for both the club and the player
CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen could play a central role in this. Altschäffl recalls his importance in the Kane transfer. „I think he flew to London three times for the negotiations,“ he says looking back. The trust in Dreesen’s connection to the player is correspondingly high. „I think he is already the Kane whisperer,“ says Altschäffl
Christian Falk is also convinced that Bayern will be successful in the end. „I’m very sure that we’ll reach the finish line before the World Cup,“ he explains – and thus clearly commits himself
Important from FC Bayern’s point of view: Harry Kane himself has signalled his openness to an extension. Although there have been no concrete talks recently, the prospects are basically good. For Falk, it is clear that the timing is being deliberately delayed. No unnecessary pressure should arise yet, either publicly or internally
However, Falk clearly qualifies a rumour from Italy that Kane is „one step away from an extension“, saying that this is „a bit too far ahead“. Nevertheless, both insiders are certain: the direction is right
The record champions‘ strategy is clear. The issue should be settled before the 2026 World Cup – to prevent speculation, transfer fee fantasies and external influences from arising in the first place. Bayern wants to plan for the long term with Kane as a sporting fixture.
