Karl Darlow has been shortlisted for a Premier League award after his Elland Road heroics for Leeds United. The nomination puts him alongside leading top-flight peers.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Daniel Farke turned to the 35-year-old when first-choice Lucas Perri was taken out of the spotlight. Darlow then produced a calm, reliable run of 17 Premier League games from January 17. It featured five clean sheets and just four defeats as Leeds pulled clear of relegation trouble.
His place on the shortlist stems from a stunning stop in the 3-0 win over Wolves on April 18. From a right-sided corner, Ladislav Krejčí’s glance sent the ball goalwards with Darlow moving the other way, yet he flashed up a glove to help it over the bar.
He is nominated alongside Manchester City keepers James Trafford and Gianluigi Donnarumma, Everton’s Jordan Pickford, Arsenal’s David Raya and Newcastle United’s Aaron Ramsdale.
Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky is also recognised for a save against Leeds late in the campaign. As Leeds hunted a late winner at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, James Justin nutmegged a defender to find Sean Longstaff in the box and the midfielder’s fierce drive was somehow tipped onto the crossbar.
