The versatile attacker has been out with a hamstring injury since the end of January

It's been a tough year for West Brom, and an even tougher one for attacker Karlan Grant.

Going into the final year of his six-year deal when he first signed at the Hawthorns from Huddersfield Town, the 28-year-old has endured injury problems that he has rarely encountered throughout his career thus far.

Grant was sidelined for a little over a month in the early stages of the campaign, and, more recently, has missed the last two months of action with a hamstring injury that he picked up in the early stages of their 1-1 draw with Derby County at Pride Park.

The versatile frontman had to undergo surgery for the injury. West Brom were expecting him to miss up to three months of action, but were hopeful he could return before the end of the season.

That return doesn't seem too far away now, though, as Grant posted photos of himself on X back in training and during drills with and without the ball late Monday night, with a cryptic emoji-based caption featuring a football and an hourglass.

The 28-year-old has missed the last 10 Championship games, and during that time, Eric Ramsay was relieved of his duties.

James Morrison became interim boss as the club plunged into the bottom three, but now the Baggies are hopefully on the rise again after picking up back-to-back league wins for the first time since the opening two games of the campaign.

There's a rare good feeling around the Hawthornes currently, or at least one better than it was a couple of months ago, and this update from Grant has only served to fuel their belief that this next month will be a good one in terms of securing their survival.

"Will be a welcome return," wrote one Baggies fan in the replies. "Things you love to see," said another.

Despite being in-and-out of favour under numerous managers during his six years at the Hawthornes, even going as far as being loaned out to Cardiff City during the 2023/24 campaign, he's always remained in the fans' good books, and they're excited to see how much he can contribute in this run-in.

Karlan Grant will have a lot to prove in the upcoming month

Ultimately, injuries and general form at the club have meant that this year has been the worst on-paper for Grant out of the six years he's spent under contract at the Hawthornes, scoring just three times in 23 Championship appearances.

With the 28-year-old's contract set to expire at the end of the season, he'll be playing for a new deal over the next month when he makes his return, as, thus far, there hasn't been much to suggest that an extension will be on the table this coming summer.

This could easily benefit West Brom in their ongoing relegation battle, though. While James Morrison has masterminded a four-game unbeaten run and back-to-back wins heading into the international break, the Baggies aren't out of the woods just yet, and will need more points between now and the end of the campaign to secure their Championship status.

West Brom have scored more than one goal just once in the 10 games that Grant has missed, and that came against a Hull City side who were reduced to 10 men early on after influential centre-back Charlie Hughes was dismissed.

So, there's a need for an attacking boost at the Hawthorns between now and May 2, and the returning 28-year-old will be taking it upon himself to provide that, as it could secure him a new contract at the club in the summer.

Either way, West Brom fans are looking forward to having him back, and they'll be hoping that he can score the goals needed to ensure that James Morrison's side remains in the second tier.
