Karren Brady is stepping down as vice-chair of West Ham after more than 16 years in the role, the club has announced.

The 57-year-old Baroness, widely recognised for her advisory position to Lord Sugar on the BBC’s ‘The Apprentice’, departs as the Hammers sit precariously two points and one place above the Premier League relegation zone with five matches remaining.

Baroness Brady initially joined West Ham following David Gold and David Sullivan’s acquisition of the club. Her prior experience included serving as managing director at Birmingham after Mr Sullivan had purchased that club.

Reflecting on her extensive tenure, Baroness Brady stated: "It has been a privilege to work alongside the board, management, players, staff and supporters at West Ham United.

“Together we have achieved remarkable milestones, but the highlight for me will always be lifting the UEFA Europa Conference League trophy – a moment that will stay with me forever. I am deeply grateful for the relationships, challenges and opportunities that have shaped my time at the club."

A significant development during her time was the club’s relocation from Upton Park to the London Stadium, the flagship venue for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Baroness Brady added: "While this chapter closes, my passion for football and commitment to supporting the next generation of leaders remains undiminished. I wish West Ham United every success for the future and look forward to following their continued achievements with pride."

David Sullivan, the club’s chair, praised Baroness Brady as an "exceptional leader", adding: "We wish her every success in her future endeavours and thank her for her outstanding contribution over the past 16 years."

West Ham earned a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace on Monday night to open up a two-point advantage over Tottenham in the relegation battle.

The Irons are due to return to action on Saturday afternoon when they face Everton at home.
