The 32 year-old made the move from Crystal Palace to Celtic on transfer deadline-day after featuring almost 250 times in eight years for the London club. The former Ghanaian internationalist’s versatility was a key factor in Brendan Rodgers sweeping in to sign him for the Scottish champions until the end of the season.

When Schlupp initially heard of Celtic’s firm interest, he decided to text the Hoops’ in form shotstopper Schmeichel. The duo played together when Leicester City famously won the English Premier League in 2015/2016.

‘Kasper was one of the first people I spoke to’

Now, the pair reunite all these years on: “Kasper was one of the first people I spoke to when this opportunity came up,” Schlupp said as reported by Daily Record. “He messaged me, and we spoke, and he told me about how great the club is, how much I’ll enjoy playing here, and I can’t wait to link up again.”

“To be able to play together again after such a long time and the memories we’ve got together, it’s going to be a special thing that I’m definitely looking forward to.”

Schlupp made his Celtic debut last night

Schlupp completed his Celtic debut in Wednesday evening’s resounding 6-0 victory over Dundee in the Scottish Premiership. The left-back was substituted onto the field for Greg Taylor with 20 minutes of the game to play.

And, the experienced defender could be in line for his first start on Saturday night when Celtic face Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup fifth round at Celtic Park.
