Kazuyoshi Miura, aged 59 and 149 days, scored with a volley on Saturday. His goal came in Fukushima United’s 7-0 win over Iwaki Furukawa, which secured progress in the Emperor’s Cup.
According to L'Équipe, the Japanese icon, who inspired the character Olivier Atton in 'Olive et Tom', registered his first goal in an official competition since November 2022.
That previous strike was for Suzuka PG, now Atletico Suzuka, in a defeat to FC Osaka in the Japan Football League.
The former Japan international, capped 89 times, is set to begin a 42nd professional season after extending his loan at Fukushima United until June 2027.
As Japan’s professional leagues prepare to switch from a spring-autumn to an autumn-spring calendar, Miura will enter his sixties while continuing to play at professional level, adding another chapter to one of football’s most enduring careers.
