Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane’s rant on the latest edition of ‘Stick to Football’ has sparked plenty of debate on social media.

Keane put current skipper Bruno Fernandes firmly in the firing line, sparking a fiery exchange with ex-Arsenal forward Ian Wright.

Wright attempted to defend Fernandes, triggering an angry outburst from Keane that put many of his previous flare-ups in the shade.

Keane is bang on the money about Fernandes and United

Man United’s 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town last night moved them up to 14th in the Premier League. They are nine points behind the top ten.

Regardless of what is happening in the boardroom, that is not good enough for a club of United’s stature, and Keane is justified in digging out the players.

Wright’s inability to point fingers at any of Fernandes’ teammates is par for the course for a pundit renowned for sitting on the fence.

Fernandes is not captaincy material. His leadership skills are non-existent, and his inconsistent performances deserve criticism.

Not one of United’s squad can look at themselves in the mirror and say they are satisfied with their efforts this season.

Lisandro Martinez recently summed up their collective mindset by hitting back at Paul Scholes after he criticised the team’s performances.

Keane and Scholes have been there and done it. They know what it takes to win in a United shirt. The current crop of players can’t hold a candle to them.

What to watch

West Ham United versus Leicester City is as good as it gets tonight. That sounds like a good excuse to watch Premier League Darts.
