Khiara Keating played the full 90 minutes for England Under-23s as the Young Lionesses beat the Netherlands 1-0 to reach the WU23 European Competition final.
In what was Lydia Bedford’s first match in charge of the team, Isobel Goodwin’s second-half strike was enough to set up a meeting with either Sweden or Norway in the showpiece.
City’s goalkeeper started the last-four fixture for her nation fresh from helping Andrée Jeglertz’s side reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win over Birmingham - meanwhile Gracie Prior was an unused substitute for England.
And after a goalless first half, it was the Young Lionesses who broke the deadlock when the ball was shifted into Goodwin’s path before the London City Lionesses forward drilled into the bottom corner.
In the previous meeting between England and the Netherlands’ youngsters, the teams played out a 1-1 draw with the latter scoring an equaliser deep into second-half stoppage time.
And Bedford’s side’s determination to keep a clean sheet was on show with valiant defending combined with a desire to find a second.
That included a fantastic claim by Keating who was quick off her line to thwart a dangerous ball into the box with the Netherlands looking to pounce.
Although Goodwin’s goal represented the only of the game, the Young Lionesses got over the line to secure the victory.
The final of the WU23 European Competition final will be played on Friday 17 April with England U23 facing either Sweden or Norway in the showpiece.
