Manchester City and Norway midfielder Sverre Nypan has offered interesting insight into what it is like training under Pep Guardiola, speaking in a new interview.
Nypan completed a £12.5 million move to the Etihad Stadium from Norwegian outfit Rosenborg this summer, making the 18-year-old the most expensive export from Norway as he penned a five-year contract at Manchester City.
City have sent the central midfielder on loan to Middlesbrough for the 2025-26 campaign, with Nypan expected to play regularly and progress his development with a view to be phased into Pep Guardiola’s ranks in the seasons to come.
Guardiola is blessed with a rich array of options in the middle of the park so it made sense for all parties to send Nypan on loan, with officials at the Etihad Stadium expected to be keeping a close watch on how the Norwegian fares in the EFL Championship.
Following his arrival to Manchester in July, Nypan spent nearly a month training with the Manchester City first-team as he got a taste of the standards set by Guardiola and co working day-in and day-out, which will give the teenager great encouragement and something to work towards in his formative years.
Speaking to TV2 in an interview, Nypan has provided some brilliant insight into his early impressions of Manchester City training under Guardiola and learning from the likes of Rodri.
“Just keep your mouth shut and let him (Guardiola) explain what to do. You become a student when you talk to him,” Nypan said, as quoted by Football Norge.
“He (Guardiola) has one of the best football minds you can meet in the world. He always has something to say. I’m looking forward to hopefully working with him more in the future.”
Manchester City have sanctioned a series of first-team loans in the recent transfer window, with Jack Grealish (Everton), Manuel Akanji (Inter Milan), Claudio Echeverri (Bayer Leverkusen) and Vitor Reis (Girona) also leaving for the 2025-26 campaign.
Nypan is highly rated at the Etihad Stadium and having seen off stiff competition to secure the teenager’s signature this summer, Manchester City will be wanting to phase Nypan into the senior ranks at the Etihad Stadium sooner rather than later.
The 18-year-old stood out in training in pre-season and as Manchester City navigate a period of transition after a major squad shuffle this summer, club officials will be delighted to have gotten their hands on one of Europe’s best teenage talents.
Nypan addd: “I had a training session with Rodri and some other players. They are very nice people. You think the worst and you might not think they will take the time for you but they really do.”
