Manchester United have reportedly moved one step closer to securing AIK Fotboll wonderkid Kevin Filling as INEOS shown no signs of slowing down in their pursuit of the best young talent across the globe.
Despite being only 16 years old, Filling is already attracting attention from clubs across Europe after breaking through for AIK in the Allsvenskan – Sweden’s top division – this season.
The young striker marked his debut with a goal, but an unfortunate injury curtailed this impressive introduction to senior football, ruling him out for two months.
Filling returned at the end of August, notching another goal a few weeks later as his reputation continued to grow.
Standing 6’1 with an already powerful frame, Filling offers the prototype of a modern centre-forward, demonstrating a potent pairing of speed and strength in equal measure despite his tender years.
The Sweden U-17 international has impressed United with scouts delivering glowing reports to the recruitment department at Old Trafford. The Red Devils were linked with a move for Filling in the summer transfer window but a deal never materialised.
But the youngster has also caught the eye of Tottenham Hotspur, who added Lucas Bergvall to their books last summer – another highly rated young Swedish star who has established himself in the Lilywhites’ first-team squad, offering a clear pathway for his compatriot to follow.
However, United have moved to fend off their Premier League rival after opening talks with AIK to sign Filling.
Florian Plettenberg reveals United are in “concrete negotiations” for Filling with AIK believed to be asking for a fee in the region of €3 million (£2.6m).
The Sky Sports DE reporter even contends Filling’s exit could be sealed as “early as this winter,” suggesting United will look to complete a deal in the January transfer window.
Tweet: “Excl: Manchester United are in concrete negotiations over a transfer for Kevin #Filling. The 16 y/o talented striker could leave AIK as early as this winter. Price valuation around €3m. Some Bundesliga clubs also consider him interesting.”
INEOS have prioritised the acquisition of highly-rated young talents since assuming the helm at Old Trafford last year.
The raid on Arsenal for Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven and the deal for Harley Emsden-James from Southampton have been supplemented by signings from further afield, including Diego Leon (Paraguay) and Sekou Kone (Mali), to demonstrate the worldwide scope United are now taking at youth level.
The capture of Filling – an outstanding centre-forward prospect from Sweden – would be right in line with the approach now directing recruitment policy at Old Trafford, and he may just prove the best example yet.
