Huddersfield Town owner Kevin Nagle has admitted he would introduce half-time shows during games.

Spain won the World Cup final 1-0 thanks to an extra-time goal from Ferran Torres to seal a deserved win over Argentina in New York.

Whilst it was a forgettable final, the tournament delivered many great moments on the pitch, from Lionel Messi’s magic, to England’s famous win in Mexico, and Cape Verde capturing the attention of all neutrals, along with much more.

Yet, it wasn’t just the football that was a talking point, as many fans understandably had issues with different aspects of the World Cup, including the hydration breaks during every game, irrespective of the temperature.

Another topic was the half-time show during the showpiece final, which meant the second half didn’t start until around 27 minutes after the first half had ended.

For a huge chunk of football fans, the half-time show was seen as a needless distraction that went against everything the game is about.

As well as that, it also goes against the laws of the game, which state the half-time break must not exceed 15 minutes without the referee’s approval, and there are numerous examples in England of clubs receiving fines for not starting on time, even when the delay is a matter of minutes.

Despite that, with the tournament predominantly held in the USA, it’s fair to say it’s something they are generally accustomed to, as most of their sporting events are stopped.

Plus, the obvious comparison is the Super Bowl, where the half-time show is a massive event, which is what FIFA were seemingly looking to emulate.

Naturally, with the likes of Shakira and Justin Bieber among those performing during the World Cup final, it became a discussion with fans, and Huddersfield Town owner Kevin Nagle was among those to share his thoughts.

When he was quizzed on the prospect of adding a half-time show to a Terriers game, Nagle said on social media that it’s something he ‘would’ be open to doing, even if he quickly acknowledged it was a view that not everyone would share!

“I would but not sure our other supporters feel the same way.”

You can’t imagine that many Huddersfield fans will agree with the view of their owner here, and it just highlights the difference in culture between English and US fans.

To be fair, Nagle has recognised that with his comment, and he will be aware that he is in the minority compared to the Terriers’ support.

Whilst many felt it was an enjoyable World Cup in terms of what happened on the pitch, the way FIFA changed so much of the game meant plenty were not happy.

The hydration breaks, the half-time show, and the outrageous ticket prices were designed to make FIFA more money, and it impacted football as we know it.

There will be fears that English football will continue to go down that way, particularly at the top, and some will argue that it has already started on that path in the Premier League. So, it will be interesting to see how the game changes over the next decade.
