Kevin Phillips reacts as Real Madrid ‘to monitor’ Trai Hume | OneFootball

Kevin Phillips has addressed talk linking Sunderland right-back Trai Hume with Real Madrid, saying the attention would be a dream for any player but he feels a move this summer is unlikely.

According to Sunderland Echo, reports in Spain have suggested Hume is among right-sided options Madrid are monitoring as potential low-cost cover and competition for ex-Liverpool Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of the window.

Hume has already played down the rumours, stating while on Northern Ireland duty last month that he had seen the speculation but did not dwell on it.

Phillips said the link is flattering and special in itself, though he does not expect the defender to leave Wearside any time soon.

He reflected that he was never linked with Real Madrid or Barcelona during his own career, praised Hume’s excellent season, and noted the talk is striking given Sunderland are not a top four side. He added that if anything did materialise it would be a remarkable moment, but he is looking forward to watching Hume with Sunderland.
