Atlético Madrid only managed to get a draw yesterday afternoon as their title push faltered a bit with a 1-1 draw against Villarreal.
The draw and Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Real Valladolid later in the evening leave Diego Simeone’s side four points adrift of Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
However, the bad news didn’t end there, as Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul received his fifth yellow card of the season, meaning he will miss his side’s clash next week against Mallorca.
Rodrigo De Paul has been a key player for Atleti this season, making 20 appearances so far in the league and starting all seven of his side’s fixtures in Europe.
The 30-year-old will also have the opportunity to continue his streak of starts in the Champions League on Wednesday against RB Salzburg, as this suspension only applies to La Liga.
De Paul’s absence opens the door for Conor Gallagher to make an impact from the start next weekend, as the Englishman has struggled to get minutes in the last few weeks, mainly playing 45 minutes at most.
