A leading member of the attacking ranks at Atlético Madrid is a lifelong fan of La Liga rivals Barcelona.
That’s according to a former coach of Rojiblancos standout Julián Álvarez.
The name of frontman Álvarez has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines across Spain since last night.
As much comes after the Argentine provided a timely reminder to any who may have forgotten of his unquestionable talents when firing on all cylinders.
En route to a 3-2 Atlético Madrid victory over Rayo Vallecano, Álvarez proved himself the star of the show, courtesy of a spectacular hat-trick.
Safe to say, then, that those of a Rojiblancos persuasion are unlikely to be overly happy with the latest word stemming from the attacker’s home country of Argentina.
Speaking during an interview with Diario AS this week, Hugo Rafael Varas, Álvarez’s first coach, revealed his take that the 25-year-old would jump at the chance to join Hansi Flick’s Barcelona:
“I think there’ll be a change at some point, either of the coach or [Álvarez] himself. Someone recently told me he’s going to Barcelona, and the truth is he’s not at Barcelona because they didn’t pay the money they should have. He would go, because he’s always been a Barcelona fan. I’d like him to play for Real Madrid.”
