Key Barcelona star 100% fit to face Atletico Madrid after minor injury scare in training | OneFootball

There was a brief moment of concern within the Barcelona camp earlier today, but it now appears to have passed without major consequences. 

Just hours before their crucial Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid, Fermin Lopez was involved in a minor incident during the team’s activation session.

According to updates shared by Gerard Romero on Jijantes, the midfielder suffered a small cut to his head during the morning warm-up. 

The situation required immediate treatment, which understandably raised doubts about his availability for the match. Luckily enough, the concerns were quickly eased.

Fermin is fit to play

Although Fermin arrived at the team hotel later than the rest of the squad, something that initially sparked speculation, he is now fully recovered and expected to be available without any restrictions. 

The issue has been described as minor, and internally, there is confidence that it will not affect his performance.

This update is particularly important given Fermin’s expected role in the starting XI.

With Hansi Flick managing his squad during this intense phase of the season, the Spaniard is likely to be handed a key role against Atletico.

This is because Dani Olmo, who featured for the full 90 minutes in the recent La Liga clash against Atletico, is expected to be rested. 

That decision opens the door for Fermin to step into the attacking midfield role, a position where his energy and movement have been particularly effective this season.

At the same time, Flick is also expected to bring Robert Lewandowski back into the starting lineup. 

The Polish striker made a decisive impact off the bench last weekend, scoring the winning goal in the 2-1 victory. His return would restore a more traditional focal point in attack.

Interestingly, in that previous encounter, it was Fermin who was substituted while Olmo stayed on for the full match.

All things considered, Barcelona may have experienced a minor scare, but they head into the game with their plans intact.
