The East Lancashire Derby will be renewed this season, following Burnley's one-year stay back in the Premier League.

Both teams were in relegation danger in 2025/26, but Blackburn's strong end to the campaign under Michael O'Neill and the Clarets' eventual relegation have them both in the Championship once more.

The two sides meet at Turf Moor in the first match between the two on November 22 at 12 pm. The match has already been moved to Sunday and given the lunchtime kickoff slot to reduce anti-social behaviour and incorporate TV times, but it won't just be Sky who will broadcast the game.

Burnley and Blackburn's rivalry was always going to play out in front of the TV cameras this season. There's no doubt that, when the time comes, the meeting at Ewood Park in February will also be chosen for TV.

However, this specific match at Turf Moor on November 22 will be simulcast by ITV alongside Sky Sports as part of the deal between ITV and the EFL.

Not only will this allow for more eyes to be on the Championship, with viewers expected to watch on both channels, but those who don't pay for Sky Sports monthly will be able to watch it live if they have a TV license, which most people in the UK do.

Why ITV have the rights for select Championship games this season

ITV having a select number of games to broadcast isn't new this season. Indeed, 20 games were broadcast on the channel last season, 10 in the EFL Cup and 10 league games across the EFL too, with the highlights show broadcast on ITV4 too.

Last year, the likes of Southampton vs Portsmouth, Ipswich Town vs Norwich City and the Steel City derby were all broadcast on ITV, and Burnley and Blackburn are set to follow that trend.

It comes as part of the deal between Sky Sports and ITV to show EFL games on free-to-air TV, a deal which runs out at the end of this season.

Alongside Burnley and Blackburn, Millwall and West Ham's meeting at the Den in September and Southampton and Portsmouth's battle at St Mary's in October will also be shown amongst a run of five live games in the first half of the campaign.

Burnley will be looking to extend their dominance in the East Lancashire Derby in front of the ITV cameras

Burnley have dominated the East Lancashire Derby over the past 15 years, failing to lose any of their last 11 meetings, which included a six-game winning run in matchups between 2014 and 2023.

That run ended the last time the two met at Turf Moor, as an Andreas Weimann wonderstrike cancelled out Lyle Foster's opener to share the points.

Zian Flemming would score the only goal in the reverse game at Ewood Park in January 2025 to secure all three points for Scott Parker's side as they continued their unbeaten run en route to finishing on 100 points come the end of the season.

Blackburn will be out to put an end to that and win their first game against Burnley since their Premier League days, when a David Dunn penalty gave them a 1-0 win at Turf Moor in March 2010.
