Tottenham Hotspur Injury Update: Key Players Ruled Out Ahead of Europa League Final

As Tottenham Hotspur prepare for their crucial Europa League final against Manchester United, the team faces significant injury setbacks. Key midfielders Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison are confirmed absentees, while Pape Matar Sarr’s availability remains uncertain.

Dejan Kulusevski Undergoes Knee Surgery

Dejan Kulusevski sustained a patella injury during Tottenham’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace. Although initial assessments were hopeful, the injury worsened, necessitating knee surgery. Manager Ange Postecoglou stated, “He has had surgery and it will put him out for at least a few months.” Kulusevski will miss the Europa League final and is expected to be sidelined until the end of August at the earliest.

James Maddison’s Season Ends Early

James Maddison suffered a knee injury during the first leg of the Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt. Postecoglou confirmed, “He’ll miss the rest of this season and it’s disappointing for him. I’m disappointed for him because he’s been a real catalyst for us.” Maddison’s absence is a significant blow, given his contribution of 12 goals and 11 assists in 45 games this season.

Pape Matar Sarr Faces Fitness Test

Pape Matar Sarr was substituted in the 53rd minute during Tottenham’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa due to back discomfort. Postecoglou described the substitution as precautionary, stating, “Pape felt something in his back, so we took him off as a bit of a precaution. I don’t think it’s anything too significant.” Sarr’s participation in the Europa League final remains uncertain and will depend on his recovery in the coming days.

Additional Injury Concerns

Lucas Bergvall is ruled out for the rest of the season after damaging ankle ligaments during training ahead of the Europa League semi-final first leg. The young midfielder has been seen wearing a foot brace and using crutches.

Radu Dragusin is also unavailable due to a knee injury sustained during a Europa League match against IF Elfsborg. The defender’s absence further limits Tottenham’s options in defence.

Tottenham Hotspur’s injury woes have intensified ahead of their Europa League final clash with Manchester United. With key players like Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison confirmed out and doubts over Pape Matar Sarr’s fitness, manager Ange Postecoglou faces a challenging task in assembling a competitive squad. The team’s depth and resilience will be tested as they aim to secure their first major trophy since 2008.
