Joshua Kimmich is highly motivated ahead of the Champions League clash against Real Madrid – and talks about the special significance of the duel

The clash between FC Bayern and Real Madrid is also electrifying for the players. Joshua Kimmich made it clear at the pre-match press conference just how important the clash is for him and the team

„It’s something special to play against Real. Bayern and Real are the biggest clubs in the world. We’ve been knocked out here every time recently, but the conditions have always been different. The second leg has often been here. It probably won’t all be decided tomorrow, we’re really looking forward to the game,“ said the FCB leader

Kimmich was impressed by the Madrilenians‘ tournament run so far – especially their progress against Manchester City. „I haven’t seen the games. It’s Real Madrid, sometimes different rules apply here. You expected City to dominate, so it was impressive how they got through.“

The special history also plays a role: „City and Real have often played against each other. Real have often progressed, even if you sometimes thought it was undeserved. But that wasn’t the case this time against City.“

Bayern are banking on a better starting position

A decisive difference to the previous duels could be the order of play this time: „The atmosphere and the crowd here are special. We have often come here with good starting positions, but have often gone home with disappointments. This time, however, the second leg is in Munich, which is an advantage for us,“ said Kimmich

Kimmich also believes his team is in a better sporting position than in previous years: „After the first leg, I thought there was more in it. Real were clearly better in the second leg, then Phonzy gave us the lead with your incredible goal. We went home thinking there was more in it.“

He continued: „But this year we don’t have any injured players, that’s often been the case when we’ve played here. Now we’re very happy that everyone is on board.“

Clear plan against Real

Despite the quality of their opponents, FC Bayern want to remain true to their style: „Generally speaking, we want to put our stamp on every game. Real are special in the way they play. They can create danger from every situation.“
