Things are getting busier again at FC Bayern. One week after the official start of training, the first national team players returned to Säbener Straße on Monday following their extended vacation. For the World Cup participants, preparations for the new season began with the mandatory medical examinations and performance tests.

Four weeks after the German national team’s bitter World Cup exit in the round of 32 against Paraguay, the next chapter is beginning for the DFB players at FC Bayern. Before Vincent Kompany can welcome his nearly full squad to the training camp at Tegernsee, the traditional performance tests were first on the agenda.

It all began on Monday morning at the Barmherzige Brüder Hospital, where team internist Prof. Dr. Roland Schmidt and his team conducted cardiovascular examinations, lung function tests, and exercise ECGs. This was followed by physical measurements and lactate tests at Säbener Straße.

Pavlovic kicks off the testing series

Aleksandar Pavlovic, the first player returning from the World Cup, arrived for his examination shortly before 8 a.m. He was followed shortly thereafter by Jonathan Tah and Joshua Kimmich, who arrived in Munich in high spirits after their four-week vacation.

The goalkeeper duo of Manuel Neuer and Jonas Urbig also completed the medical tests. Neuer, who is entering his 21st Bundesliga season, was in high spirits and even wished the waiting journalists a “great season.”

In addition to Hiroki Ito, Minjae Kim and new signing Nathaniel Brown were also expected to arrive for their medicals later in the day. Also present was Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, whose permanent transfer to FC Bayern is reportedly imminent, according to sporting director Christoph Freund.

Training camp at Lake Tegernsee is taking shape

The first World Cup participants will arrive at the training camp at Lake Tegernsee as early as Tuesday. There, under the guidance of Vincent Kompany, the first intensive training sessions await, as well as a friendly match against FC Rottach-Egern on Thursday.

Sven Ulreich, Tom Bischof, and Arijon Ibrahimovic—who has returned from loan—have been back in training for a week now. Players on the transfer list—João Palhinha, Sacha Boey, Bryan Zaragoza, and Armindo Sieb—are also already training with the team.

However, the squad will not yet be complete. Before the trip to Asia, three more World Cup participants—Luis Díaz, Konrad Laimer, and Josip Stanisic—will join the team. High-profile players such as Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Dayot Upamecano, Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala, and new signing Ismael Saibari are being given additional days off due to the physical toll of the World Cup and will not rejoin team training until after the promotional tour to South Korea and Hong Kong.

Lennart Karl and Serge Gnabry are also out for the Munich side for the time being due to injuries. Both are continuing their individual rehabilitation training in Munich and are expected to be gradually reintegrated into the team. With that, FC Bayern’s preseason preparations are slowly picking up steam—even if Vincent Kompany still has to wait a few more days for his full squad.
