Koba Koindredi has re-entered the transfer market after Basel decided not to take up their purchase option, sending the former Valencia midfielder back to Lisbon with his future open.
According to Superdeporte, the Swiss side waited until the 30 June deadline before confirming they would not activate the four million euros clause agreed with Sporting.
The left-footed central midfielder, 23, made 41 appearances in all competitions for Basel, scoring two and supplying one assist. He featured regularly for much of the season but never became an undisputed starter.
With the option rejected, the decision now rests with Sporting, who do not plan to keep Koindredi in their squad next season and intend to find him a new destination in July and August. Their priority is to recoup roughly the four million euros they invested when signing him from Estoril.
That valuation may prove difficult to match in the wake of Basel’s stance, so Sporting will wait for movement and study any proposals for the Frenchman.
As the summer window heats up, Koindredi’s name moves into the list of opportunities. He wants to maintain a prominent role, and his situation is likely to be one to watch in the coming weeks.
