Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo finds himself in the thick of a heated transfer battle.
For the past few months, Mainoo’s future at Man United has been called into question.
Given his severe lack of gametime, Mainoo has been linked with multiple clubs, particularly since it was reported that United manager Ruben Amorim was not willing to allow the youngster to start a match.
To date, several clubs have been strongly linked with the English international.
Finding his match
Premier League rivals Chelsea were linked with Mainoo, particularly as they allegedly seek a replacement for the injury-prone Romeo Lavia.
Napoli has reportedly targeted Mainoo as well, seeking to bring him in on a loan deal.
Even Real Madrid has entered the mix, with United believed to be willing to offer Mainoo in order to land Endrick in a swap deal.
Despite so many big names already entering the mix, Leeds United appear unfazed as they reportedly consider pursuing a loan move for Mainoo.
Still, they may need to contend with a harsh reality if one new report is to be believed.
The likelihood of a deal
“I don’t see there being much of a chance that Mainoo makes a move to Leeds. I do think that he is stuck at the moment, though,” TEAMtalk transfer insider Dean Jones claimed.
“Realistically, he is miles away from making the England squad for next summer and I don’t think anything can be done to transform that radically enough in time for the summer. I see a lot of reporting around Mainoo wanting a transfer because he’s worried about the World Cup. I think that there are other things that are more relevant and immediate,” he added, seemingly dismissing the World Cup as being a transfer consideration.
“Yes, I can understand his frustration and that he has to be playing football to have any chance of getting into a better condition and in better form. But it is his job to win his place in the team, and equally, Man Utd’s main objective is to protect the club and to make sure that they have a squad that is prepared for next year.”
Given that United only have Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, and Manuel Ugarte to choose from in central midfield, should Mainoo depart, it makes sense for them to hold onto the English international, at least until such time that they find a suitable replacement.
