Koffi Kouao has confirmed he will leave Metz on a free when his contract expires on 30 June, after talks failed, with the club facing relegation.

The player said in a social media post that his four seasons had brought highs and lows, that he had always tried to give everything, and that there are three matches left to finish well. He added that representing Metz had been an honour.

Suspended for the visit of Monaco on Saturday at 19:00, the Ivorian right-back has made 26 Ligue 1 appearances this season, scoring two goals.

He has set 10 May, against Lorient, as his farewell at Saint-Symphorien on the penultimate matchday.

He was close to leaving in January but chose not to go mid-season despite the strike episode against Rennes, which he has always disputed, in the 0-1 defeat in late November. He also thanked supporters for their welcome and backing since day one.

Signed from Vizela in summer 2022, Kouao has played 113 matches across four seasons in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2. Regarded as one of the more consistent performers despite occasional lapses, he remains popular and supporters could plan a tribute.
