Bayern Munich have confirmed that Nicolas Jackson will return to his parent club, Chelsea, when his loan spell expires at the end of the season.

According to Bayern and Germany legend Lothar Matthäus, head coach Vincent Kompany would actually have liked to keep the forward, but the purchase option – reportedly set at €65 million – was deemed too expensive by the German champions.

“Kompany is convinced of Jackson, and he would have liked to keep him in Munich. But he is too expensive,” Matthäus said on the show ‘Sky90 – die Fußballdebatte’.

“Kompany has made it clear internally that he would like to keep Jackson, but likely only at a certain price that his employer, Chelsea, will not necessarily accept.”

Jackson, 24, has scored 10 goals in 33 appearances for Bayern.
