Ahead of the final Bundesliga game of the season against 1. FC Köln, Vincent Kompany has taken a first look at Bayern’s season. The head coach of the record champions was satisfied with his team’s development – but at the same time warned against taking the league finale lightly
For Bayern, Saturday’s match in the Allianz Arena is not only the handover of the trophy, but also the emotional conclusion to a long season. Kompany is already looking forward to the special moment: „You start every season with the hope of lifting the trophy into the air again,“ explained the Belgian at the final press conference
The shared experience with the fans and families is particularly important to him: „It’s always nice to have the family there, everyone who has supported us throughout the season.“

Despite the relaxed starting position, Kompany is by no means expecting a relaxed game against 1. FC Köln. Rather, the Bayern coach is expecting a highly motivated opponent: „A game in the Allianz Arena is like a cup final,“ emphasized the 40-year-old
Kompany particularly emphasized Cologne’s emotionality: „They are very strong on the counter-attack and are also an emotional club who bring a lot of fans with them.“
Bayern will therefore approach the game with full concentration: „We will approach this task like any other and do everything we can to win the game.“
However, the Belgian deliberately wanted to avoid drawing a final conclusion to the season, due to the upcoming DFB Cup final against VfB Stuttgart, which he believes will play a decisive role in assessing the season. „I’ll wait to draw a conclusion, we still have the very important cup final,“ explained Kompany
Nevertheless, he was already very satisfied with the development of many players and the team as a whole. The Bayern coach particularly highlighted the new additions: „Those who have joined us have made us stronger.“
Kompany specifically mentioned Luis Díaz and Lennart Karl, who had „given the team something extra“
Despite the league title and possible double, Kompany still sees development potential. „The bar is very, very high,“ said the Belgian – and at the same time made it clear that the record champions‘ ambition remains unchanged: „The goal remains that we want to develop again next year.“
Kompany is thus continuing the course he has already pursued throughout the season: attractive soccer, high intensity and continuous development – regardless of the successes already achieved.
