Ibrahima Konate hopes Liverpool can take the positives from the club’s Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain.
Ousmane Dembele’s double earned PSG a 2-0 win at Anfield on Tuesday night, to seal a 4-0 aggregate success for the French champions.
After a poor performance in Paris, Liverpool were much improved during the return leg and unfortunate not to be in front before Dembele’s 72nd-minute opener killed the quarter-final tie as a contest.
It’s the second straight season that Liverpool have been eliminated from Europe by PSG.
The defeat also ends Liverpool hopes of silverware this season, but Konate is keen to remain optimistic.
He said the second-leg performance proved Liverpool can compete against the best in the world, believing PSG have improved since last season’s Champions League success.
Konate conceded that the Reds’ ‘level had dropped’ from last season, but wants his side to take the positives.
“A little bit, after we don’t have to forget what happened this season for us, many things happened and we don’t have to forget that,” the centre-back said.
“We bring new players, all of these things. But the game of today means a lot of things because against PSG, I think the PSG of this season is a little bit better than the season before and to make a performance like that against them, I don’t say we have to be happy, because we lost, but we have to build from that and realise how good we can be.”
