Barcelona had a massive chance to take over as the leaders in La Liga on Sunday when they took on Real Sociedad at Montjuic and it comes as no surprise that they did capitalise on the same.

The Catalans, not for the first time, went a goal down early and were forced to mount a comeback. As has become routine for them now, however, they did exactly that and took all three points.

It was Jules Kounde who scored a stunning header to bring the team back on level terms before the half-time whistle, and a similar header from Robert Lewandowski after the break handed them the lead, and the win.

Barça Universal brings you the player ratings from Barcelona 2-1 Real Sociedad.

Wojciech Szczesny: 7.5

The veteran goalkeeper made his first start of the season and put up a solid show without looking rusty with his distribution. Did not have a whole lot to do given the team’s dominance and could not do much more in preventing the goal that was conceded.

Gerard Martin: 7

Martin continued to be solid in defence for Barcelona on the evening and did not venture forward regularly. With Alejandro Balde nearly back, the player has given the manager enough to trust him as a reliable backup left-back.

Andreas Christensen: 7.5

Christensen’s presence at the back provided Barcelona with a good replacement to Pau Cubarsi’s distribution, while he also stayed confident and dominating in defence with vital clearances.

His performance, needless to say, continued to strengthen his case to be a regular starter for the Blaugrana.

Ronald Araujo: 7

The Uruguayan utilised his physicality to dominate the Real Sociedad attackers and did largely well to keep them in check. His distribution on the night was impressive. although he could have done better to mark his man for the first goal conceded.

Jules Kounde: 8.5

Kounde was defensively on point against Real Sociedad, but did not have a whole lot to do on that front. It was, however, a far more special night for him as he scored his first goal of the season and helped Barcelona equalise the score.

His header could not have been more precise, and it is safe to say that Kounde is well and truly back in his element after a shaky start.

Frenkie de Jong: 8

The Dutchman excelled in controlling the midfield and played in a deep playmaking role, twisting his way past the visitors’ press and looking to progress the ball forward. Defensively, he was stable but began pushing higher up in the second half.

Pedri: 8

Pedri continues to be the only Barcelona player to have started every game for the team this season, and understandably so, given how he carries the team through the midfield.

Pedri was calm under pressure against Real Sociedad, pulled off his usual set of magic in moments, and dictated the play with real composure.

Dro Fernandez: 6.5

The big surprise in Hansi Flick’s lineup on the night, 17-year-old Pedro Fernandez Dro looked calm and composed playing in the attacking midfield role for Barcelona.

The pressure seemingly did not get to him, although the physicality did to an extent and understandably so given his age and build. He racked up two key passes and completed 92% of his passes on debut, making a positive start.

Roony Bardghji: 7

Bardghji was given a start in the absence of Raphinha, and he proved to be a valuable attacking outlet, although clearly still in need of polishing.

The player was confident in his take-ons, dribbles, and build-up play, but the final product was lacking both in terms of shots and final passes.

Marcus Rashford: 8.5

Rashford was the most active of Barcelona’s starting forward trio as he constantly looked to create a threat on the left wing. He was sharp with his dribbles and looked confident on the wing, even in take-ons.

Continued his goal of providing form as he racked up an assist once more, this time with a perfect corner delivery to Jules Kounde.

Robert Lewandowski: 8

The Polish striker looked lost in the opening half and did not have as many touches as he would have liked to. In fact, La Real’s tight defensive lines did not give him much space to pounce on.

All he needed to ignite his tank, however, was a magical pass from Lamine Yamal moments after the youngster came on, and he headed the ball right past Alex Remiro to hand his team the lead.

Dani Olmo: 7

The Spaniard replaced Dro at half-time and brought more composure to the build-up, seemingly making Barcelona’s buildup in the final third more threatening and reassuring.

His introduction made a big change to the game dynamic, and the player is showing positive signs of being close to recovering his best.

Lamine Yamal: 8.5

The Ballon d’Or runner-up finally returned to action for Barcelona and made a massive impact just minutes after coming on as he sent in a peach of a cross to Lewandowski, which helped Barcelona take the lead.

Looking sharp and confident otherwise, and missed having a goal to his name by a minor margin.
