Serhou Guirassy is going through a difficult phase in front of goal, having scored just once in Borussia Dortmund’s last seven games.
The Guinean striker’s last league goal came all the way back in BVB’s 2-0 win over Heidenheim on September 13.
Despite this, Dortmund coach Niko Kovač is confident that Guirassy will soon rediscover his scoring touch.
“Of course, I see that he isn’t scoring at the moment. But I also see how hard he’s working and that he gives everything,” Kovač said at a press conference ahead of Dortmund’s away game in the DFB-Pokal against Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday.
“In a striker’s life, it sometimes happens that you miss chances you would normally score. He is our leader in attack – he initiates everything up front. I fully support him.”
Kovač did not rule out the possibility of Guirassy getting a break - either on Tuesday or in one of the other coming games.
“Of course, it’s possible that Serhou gets a short creative pause. But I still have some time to think about tomorrow’s game and the matches ahead,” Kovač said, adding that “there won’t be major changes" against Eintracht.
Emre Can and Julien Duranville remain Dortmund’s only absentees, with both expected to return after the international break in mid-November.
“But no pressure: we want players who are 100 percent healthy and fit,” Kovač emphasised.
