Kubo is back at Zubieta and has reported to Rino Matarazzo. According to Diario Vasco, he is the first of Real Sociedad’s World Cup contingent to return.

He exited the tournament in the round of 32 after defeat to Brazil on 29 June.

The Japanese player could not perform as hoped at the World Cup after spraining a knee in the opening group game, which kept him out of the next two matches.

That sprain will shape his return to training. He is likely to be eased in, with progress depending on how he copes with the workload.

The injury was caused by a challenge from Dumfries, the new Real Madrid player.
