Leeds United took a sizeable stride towards safety with a 3-0 home win over Wolves, via James Justin, Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, moving nine points clear of 18th. Daniel Farke’s side started fast, Justin scoring before Okafor struck one minute 26 seconds later from Aaronson’s pass. “What a time to do it,” opening scorer Justin told Sky Sports.
Wolves improved after the break, Karl Darlow producing a superb save and Adam Armstrong seeing a finish chalked off for offside. In added time Calvert-Lewin won and converted a penalty to rubber-stamp the result.
Farke had teased an injury surprise on Thursday and it arrived 75 minutes before kick-off, Joe Rodon returning to the squad roughly 10 days after ankle ligament damage at West Ham in the FA Cup, despite an initial May return. With the game safe late on, he got minutes from the bench to aid sharpness for Wednesday’s trip to Bournemouth.
Okafor’s form is landing at just the right moment, his finish making seven Premier League goals and part of five in his last five, either side of a hamstring lay-off. He was withdrawn with over 20 minutes left, with Chelsea at Wembley next week.
A first league win at Old Trafford since 1981 on Monday set up a defining week, capped by this convincing Elland Road victory with five to play. It also brought back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time this season, and the first since beating Bournemouth and Liverpool in autumn 2022.
