In the pre-match press conference, before France play Germany, Kylian Mbappé (26) was asked who he believed should win the Ballon d’Or. The France captain identified the two leading candidates, Lamine Yamal (19) and Ousmane Dembélé (28), but opted to back his international and former PSG teammate to win the France Football award.
The feeling has been that Mbappé is someone who has been destined to win the award. However, he looks set to be beaten by his compatriot to the achievement after his impressive season with Les Parisiens, winning the treble and the club’s first UEFA Champions League title. Dembélé is the favourite to win the award.
France will be without Ousmane Dembélé for their third-place play-off against Germany on Sunday afternoon. The attacker has been ruled out due to a quadriceps injury which also looks set to rule him out of PSG’s first two matches in the FIFA Club World Cup.
When asked who should win the Ballon d’Or, Mbappé said, “Are we talking about Yamal and Ousmane? Then, I back Ousmane!”
