Real Madrid faced Real Valladolid in one of the most uneven of contests as both these sides were on the opposite ends of the table when they faced each other on matchday 21 of La Liga 2024-25.

This was a good opportunity for the Merengues to further strengthen their position at the top of La Liga as Atletico Madrid could only muster a draw against Villarreal and they took full advantage as they emerged victorious with a 3-0 scoreline. As a result, Los Blancos are now four points clear at the summit of La Liga table.

But while this game’s impact on the league standings will ultimately prove to be more influential for Real Madrid at the end of the season, the fans will remember this match for another reason.

This was the first time that Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick since his move to the Spanish capital, as he scored all three goals scored by his side in this game.

His first goal came half an hour into the game, as he combined with Jude Bellingham and the two players weaved their magic to put the Frenchman through on goal, albeit after a slight touch from a defender. Mbappe made no mistake from this position as he curled the ball past the Valladolid goalkeeper to give his side the lead.

The 2018 World Cup winner then doubled his tally in the game ten minutes into the second half. This time, he combined with Rodrygo, as the Merengues launched a scathing counter to punish Valladolid.

The Brazilian advanced the ball to the edge of the opposition box and put a simple pass for Mbappe to latch on in the left side of the box. Thence, the French star finished his chance from a difficult angle to make the scoreline 2-0.

Another 10 minutes into the game, the former Paris Saint Germain forward could already have scored his hat-trick, but his shot hit the side netting after the star-studded Real Madrid forward line built up another promising attack.

However, despite not getting many clear-cut chances in the rest of regulation time, Mbappe finally got a golden opportunity to get his first hat-trick with Los Blancos.

Jude Bellingham was fouled by Valladolid inside their box, and after a VAR review, the referee decided to award the Merengues with a penalty. Mbappe confidently stepped up to take the spot-kick and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way as he sent the ball to the left side of the net.

As he scored all the goals in this game, the Frenchman was deservedly handed the Man of the Match award. Hopefully, this hat-trick will prove to be only the precursor of a great career at Real Madrid, and he will continue to score bucketloads of goals in the games to come.
