Kylian Mbappé (27) is in the prime years of his playing career. However, he is already being asked about his post-career plans. Becoming the President of the French Fifth Republic is not one of them, as he told Le Parisien.
Mbappé is currently preparing to compete in his third FIFA World Cup. He won his first and scored a hat-trick in the final of his second, although it was not enough for France to lift the trophy for the third time in their history.
This is the first World Cup in which the Real Madrid forward will captain his side. Since being named captain, Mbappé has been outspoken on political issues. He notably called on a rejection of the far-right in the lead-up to Euro 2024.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, he reiterated that call. It was an intervention that drew criticism from Michel Platini; he has been defended by his manager, Didier Deschamps.
But despite being outspoken on political issues, he isn’t planning a post-career in politics. “I have a lot of possibilities for after my career. I have a business which has grown well. If I want to be a businessman, I’ll be a businessman. If I want to have bigger aspirations, I’ll have bigger aspirations,” he said.
Mbappé was then asked if that meant presidential ambitions: “No, don’t worry! I am not talking about being President. Quite a lot of people say that, but it isn’t in my plans. I am hated enough as it is!”
