Kylian Mbappé has paid tribute on X to Didier Deschamps ahead of the France manager’s final match. According to L'Équipe, Deschamps will take charge for the last time on Saturday in Miami, when France face England in the World Cup third-place play-off, kick-off at 23:00 in France.
He called this Deschamps’ last dance, accepted the squad should have provided a better ending but did not, and said it was hard to express what the coach had brought across 14 years as a driving force in the team’s renewal.
He added that some had not always recognised Deschamps’ stature, saying time and history would do so.
France’s record scorer on 64 goals thanked him for the chance to represent his country on the biggest stage for many years. The 27-year-old Real Madrid forward said he felt privileged to have been alongside one of the nation’s greatest legends and that he cherished what they had experienced and achieved together. He wished Deschamps well in his next adventure.
