By starting the World Cup semi-final against Spain on Tuesday night, Kylian Mbappé became the French player with the most appearances at the tournament. The France captain moved to 21 matches, overtaking Hugo Lloris on 20.

In his 18 World Cup starts he has never lost in normal time, returning 17 wins and one draw.

The current Real Madrid forward is playing in his third World Cup, and he reached the final at his first two tournaments.

Whatever happens against La Roja, it is likely he would also start a potential final or third-place play-off, which would raise the total further.

The leading French appearance-makers at the World Cup also include Antoine Griezmann on 19, Olivier Giroud and Raphaël Varane on 18, Fabien Barthez and Thierry Henry on 17, Lilian Thuram on 16, Maxime Bossis on 15, and Michel Platini on 14.
