The former Blues forward has issued his first words since leaving St Andrew’s.

Birmingham City will be hopeful of being involved in the promotion mix after narrowly falling short last season.

Blues finished 10th on their return to the second tier under Chris Davies, finishing nine points outside the top six, so further investment from owner Tom Wagner will hopefully see them bridge that gap come the end of the 2026-27 campaign.

And they will be able to attack the summer transfer window once again to make it happen too, with Birmingham’s ownership group reportedly injecting a further £72m worth of new shares into the club.

So far during the transfer window, Birmingham have yet to explode into life, bringing in just three players, with two of them having been at St Andrew’s last season in James Beadle (Loan) and Jhon Solis (Permanent).

One new recruit has been of ex-Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry, who will look to add to his Championship knowhow in the West Midlands and help solidify Blues’ backline throughout the season.

It terms of departures, Blues have been equally busy on that front, waving goodbye to three players in an attempt to balance the books.

One of those players to depart has been forward Kyogo Furuhashi, who puts behind a miserable spell at Blues by moving to MLS outfit LA Galaxy.

The 31-year-old, who linked up at Birmingham for a reported fee of £10m, netted just three times from 31 appearances in all competitions, failing to show the clinical edge he had over in Scotland with Celtic as he scored 85 times in 165 games at Celtic Park.

It’s almost certainly a loss on the original fee Blues spent, but it was important to get Kyogo off the books, with the Japanese international unlikely to pull up many trees after such a poor opening campaign and the fact he was heading into his thirties.

With his move to LA Galaxy confirmed, Kyogo has issued his first words since departing Birmingham.

Kyogo’s move to LA Galaxy was confirmed in the early hours of yesterday morning, with the forward penning a deal which will keep him in Los Angeles until the 2030-31 season.

Speaking in his native Japanese language, translated into English, Kyogo said: “Hey G’s, I’m Kyogo.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting you all in person.

“G’s up.”

In football, you get moves to certain clubs that are just destined to not work out, and Kyogo’s spell at Birmingham City is another clear example.

There was a lot of pressure on his shoulders to perform and meet that £10m price tag, but the longer his wait for a goal continued, the more his confidence appeared to wane, and that led to his first-team chances disappearing rapidly.

And after not featuring in the squad for Blues’ final seven games of the campaign, you got the feeling that his short time in the West Midlands was going to be over, with the club accepting they’ve failed on this deal and have moved him on as quickly as possible.

By moving to America, Kyogo can hopefully reignite his career and get back on the goalscoring trail after a tough time at St Andrew’s, while Birmingham will look to reinvest the money earned back from the sale to bring in a fresh forward who can hit the ground running and be the Championship marksman they need to bring about promotion.
