One of the bigger more successful signings in the history of Major League Soccer happened in August of last year. Not every deal with an international talent has netted a championship like it has for the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Inter Miami has tried to do so with Lionel Messi. He and his teammates were eliminated from the MLS playoffs last fall by the eighth-seeded Atlanta United.
LAFC had signed Olivier Giroud last year. He was granted his release a few months ago, but not before his team was ousted from the MLS playoffs earlier than expected last season. LAFC and Miami
The LA Galaxy added another notch on the franchise's resume. The team won the Third-Place match of the 2025 Leagues Cup. Reus was big in that contest as the Galaxy won, 2-1, against Orlando City.

Fifteen months ago, the Los Angeles Galaxy stated on their team site that "the club has signed free-agent midfielder Marco Reus using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) to a two-and-a-half-year contract through the end of the 2026 MLS season. The Galaxy acquired the Discovery Priority to Reus from Charlotte FC in exchange for $400,000 in General Allocation Money ($100,000 in 2024 GAM; $300,000 in 2025 GAM). Reus, who will occupy an International Roster Slot, will be added to the Galaxy roster pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC)."
"Marco Reus is a world-class player who has excelled at the highest level of the sport, including playing in two Champions League Finals for Borussia Dortmund and in the FIFA World Cup with the German National Team. For Marco, a two-time Bundesliga Footballer of the Year, to join the Galaxy after playing his entire career in Germany is a testament to the project we are continuing to build at the club. We look forward to Marco’s contributions to the LA Galaxy as we enter the critical final stretch of the 2024 MLS season and beyond."Will Kuntz, GM of the LA Galaxy
Even in his MLS debut last summer, Reus scored and recorded an assist. He was the LA Galaxy's star on offense as they beat Atlanta United, 2-0.
This season, Reus has already been named Player of the Month three times by the Los Angeles Galaxy. In the months of May, June, and July, the German-born soccer player has been the best man on the field for his team.
With five goals and nine assists, Reus has recorded more goal contributions than any other member of his team. Only Gabriel Pec has scored more (6).
Reus scored in half of the LA Galaxy's six matches this year during Leagues Cup play, including in the Third-Place match against Orlando City. His score in the quarterfinals against Pachuca propelled the Galaxy into the next round where they lost to the eventual champions, the Seattle Sounders.
Next up for Reus and the Los Angeles Galaxy are the Houston Dynamo. The game is on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. CT and 5:30 p.m. PT.
