According to an update shared by SPORT, it has come to light that La Liga has officially reported racist chants directed at Vinicius Jr. during Real Madrid’s away clash against Real Oviedo at the Carlos Tartiere.

As reported before, the incident involved monkey chants from a small group of home supporters.

These chants were first directed at Kylian Mbappe after he scored the opening goal in the 37th minute, and later at Vinicius when he came onto the pitch in the 62nd minute.

La Liga’s statement

LaLiga confirmed the details in its official statement –

1. In the 37th minute of the match, after Real Madrid CF scored the first goal, a group of local fans, located on the side of the field, where the visiting players were celebrating with their arms around each other, uttered the monkey’s onomatopoeia, “uh, uh, uh”, without any kind of provocation or discussion having previously existed.

2. In the 63rd minute of the match, when the Real Madrid CF player Vinicius Jr. entered the field, a group of local fans again uttered the monkey’s onomatopoeia, “uh, uh, uh”, without any previous provocation or discussion.

Both circumstances were picked up by the cameras, with the cuts being broadcast on the program on Monday, 25/08/2025.

Real Oviedo respond

Real Oviedo quickly reacted through club president Martin Pelaez, who condemned the incidents and confirmed an internal investigation in collaboration with the police to identify those responsible.

“This institution is against any act of racism. If we find evidence, we are going to punish him because we cannot tolerate him,” Peláez said.

He also defended the club’s fanbase, emphasising that the majority of supporters have shown outstanding behaviour in recent years.

“The behaviour of the blue fans in recent seasons has been spectacular” and asked not to tarnish the image of the club or Carlos Tartiere because of “a few”.
