There is always a tendency in football to rush to judgment, especially when expectations are as high as they are around Vinicius Jr.

After Brazil’s recent defeat to France, the spotlight has once again intensified on the Real Madrid forward, with critics questioning whether he is ready to lead the Seleção in the FIFA World Cup.

However, not everyone is buying into the story.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has stepped forward to publicly defend the winger, offering a strong vote of confidence at a time when the noise around the player continues to grow.

What did Tebas say?

The La Liga president shared his views on the bigger talking point – Brazil’s handling of Vinicius.

The winger has come under scrutiny following a difficult outing against France, where he struggled to impose himself, often isolated and unable to receive the ball in threatening positions.

Tebas, though, urged patience, drawing a comparison with one of football’s greatest ever players.

Defending Vinicius amid the criticism back home, he stated:

“To the Brazilians, I’d say that Messi was criticised, and he won them the World Cup. They should be patient because Vinicius will win them the World Cup too.”

It must be noted that the forward has inherited Brazil’s iconic No. 10 shirt from Neymar. That alone places him under immense pressure.

Against France, those expectations weighed heavily. For large parts of the game, Vinicius was starved of possession, rarely receiving passes in stride or in situations where he could attack defenders directly.

It was only after drifting back towards his preferred left flank that he began to see more of the ball.

Yet, by then, the damage had been done.

France had already taken control, and as the scoreline stretched to 2-0, frustration among Brazilian supporters became evident.

As a result, chants calling for Neymar echoed around the stadium, which was a sign of discontent towards Vinicius.
