La Liga president Javier Tebas has on Tuesday issued a firm response to the recent complaints of Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick regarding the schedule in Spain’s top-flight.

Flick, for those who may have missed it, took aim at those in a position of power in Spanish football

“Every league protects their clubs, especially when they play in the semi-finals of the Champions League. It’s unbelievable, we have no time to rest.

“For me, the guys responsible for that – I want to discuss it with them… I don’t want to make excuses or complain. I’m happy we’re not playing on Sunday at 2 p.m against Valladolid. But why can’t we play at 6 p.m like we normally do? Give me one reason. To me, it’s a joke and it affects Spanish football. The rest of the teams in the European leagues benefit.

“I’m speechless because this situation is unbelievable. In the Bundesliga or Premier League, they take care of their clubs. They [La Liga] have no idea what this [arriving late] means for the players.”

Such comments culminated in quite a stir across Spain, placing a magnifying glass on the aforementioned Javier Tebas and his colleagues.

In turn, it should come as little surprise to hear of La Liga’s president, on Tuesday, hitting back at Flick in no uncertain terms.

During an appearance in front of the media, Tebas was drawn on the recent comments of Barcelona’s headmaster.

And the Spaniard, in quotes sourced by Relevo, did not hold back:

“I’ll have to remind Flick why he doesn’t complain to UEFA, who could have put the semi-finals on the same day. Why do they always complain to the leagues? We’ve been putting time slots in place for 10 years. The ones who created this agglomeration with the new Champions League format have been UEFA. We look for the best for everyone, not for one, two, three and four. We have to look at everyone, not just Tebas.”
