La Liga has set a provisional kick-off for Ernesto Valverde’s final match at San Mamés. The farewell is slated for Sunday 17 May at 19:00, with a club tribute planned.

According to El Correo, it falls on the penultimate round, currently set as a unified slot with every game in the same window, though La Liga has signalled that schedules may change once earlier results are known, and could be split by differing targets.

This weekend’s Segunda División programme underlines that approach, with only two fixtures, one at 14:00 and another at 21:15, leaving space to divide the Primera División round into two blocks.

With the title effectively settled, barring a surprise it will go to Barcelona, and Champions League places already assigned, pending whether Spain secures a fifth berth, with Betis almost assured of it, the intrigue now lies in the remaining European spots and in who will join Oviedo, almost relegated, in Segunda.

Athletic are in that first battle after victory at Mendizorroza. They host Valencia on Sunday at 16:15, then visit Espanyol on Wednesday 13 at 19:00, with Espanyol winless since their trip to San Mamés on the day of the Christmas Lottery.

Depending on those results, the Bilbao side could climb into sixth, three points away and currently held by Celta, who are due at La Catedral on that Sunday in May.
