“Lack of experience” – John Terry explains why Chelsea wont challenge for PL for 3-5 years | OneFootball

Former Chelsea player turned club legend John Terry has explained why the club will not challenge for the Premier League for 3-5 years.

The news comes after Chelsea were defeated by Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, losing to a first half headed goal by Mikel Merino.

The game was obviously not without its drama and Chelsea fans saw what they expect to see every time Robert Sanchez starts, and that is him making a silly mistake and giving away a goal. This time he got lucky, but Maresca continued to back his goalkeeper at the full time whistle once again.

Meanwhile, Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber was seen mocking Maresca on the side lines in an interaction that has annoyed Blues fans even more.

All in all it wasn’t a good performance from Chelsea and it lacked intensity, desire, energy, and any kind of real belief that they could get something from the game.

We are now into an international break and a chance for Chelsea’s players and Maresca to have a bit of a reset before our next game against Tottenham!

John Terry has been speaking to talkSPORT this week and The Sun have some of the quotes.

Terry said:

“It was always going to be a process. When you sign young players – and we lost a bit of experience with Thiago Silva and those guys last year – there was going to be a process.

“Even at the start of the season when things were going well, I expected a little drop from the players just because of that lack of experience and the game time. So I’m comfortable with the direction we’re going in.

“In terms of where we were 20 years ago, we’re not there. But we’re in a transition period.

“As ex-players and fans we need to be very patient with that. And I say that with a ‘very’ in front of it because I think we’re three to five years off competing for the Premier League in my opinion.”
