LaLiga: Joan Laporta takes a dig at Real Madrid over refereeing
FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has once again taken aim at Real Madrid.
Last Sunday in LaLiga, Real Madrid defeated Rayo Vallecano (2-1) thanks to a penalty awarded and converted deep into stoppage time. Speaking to the press on Tuesday, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta took a swipe at Los Merengues by criticizing what he sees as favorable refereeing decisions.
"For me, Rayo were heavily penalized. Two players were sent off, then there were 10 minutes of added time while the score was level. On top of that, a penalty was awarded in the final minute, and penalties are always up for debate. There are some penalties I wouldn’t call because I don’t think they’re justified. In that play, the defender mishandled the ball, lost his balance, lifted his leg, but didn’t really make enough contact to bring down the attacker. I think it was exaggerated. The referee, according to his own judgment, can call what he sees as a penalty. But as a spectator, I think this penalty was excessive and shouldn’t have been given. I say this constructively. Sometimes decisions also go in our favor, and I acknowledge that too. But here, the decision favored a club that has a TV channel dedicated solely to one thing: explaining nonsense and claiming that referees are always against them. What does this famous TV channel have to say now, the one that claims all referees penalize this club? They haven’t analyzed this; they should." said Joan Laporta.
