Barcelona and Spain star Lamine Yamal has revealed the details of a message sent his way by Blaugrana icon Lionel Messi on Sunday night.
This comes after the pair were at the heart of a viral moment in the aftermath of the World Cup final.
After Spain’s hard-fought victory over Argentina on football’s biggest stage was confirmed by the full-time whistle in New York, Lamine made a beeline for the crestfallen Messi.
Looking dejected, the latter rose to his feet to greet the player many consider to be his heir, as the future of football.
From here, the pair embraced, before exchanging some words, and going their separate ways.
And as alluded to above, with the dust having now settled on the fixture, Lamine has provided an insight into exactly what was said.
Drawn on Messi’s name during a press conference on Monday, the 19-year-old explained:
“The best in history and someone I’ve always admired. At the end of the match, I showed him my respect.
“He told me to keep going my way and that the future belongs to our generation. Those words mean as much to me as the gold medal around my neck.”
