Keyne, who turns four in September and is Lamine Yamal’s half-brother, has charmed Spain’s supporters and become an unlikely good‑luck symbol on their US tour.
According to L'Équipe, during Spain’s tense 2-1 win over Belgium in Inglewood a large share of the 70,000 crowd erupted simply because Keyne appeared on the big screens. Yamal said the boy had called him on his mother’s phone the day before to announce he would pull a face, which he duly did.
His rise began after Euro 2024, when he joined the champions on the pitch and, cradled by his brother, won over fans with an easy smile. Reporter Ben Fernandes Santos notes Spaniards quickly embraced his playful personality, which mirrors Yamal’s on and off the pitch.
Yamal regularly features Keyne on TikTok for his 51 million followers, from dance routines to a misfiring golf attempt on American greens. At Spain games fresh clips circulate, including the moment he dived head first into a popcorn bag. He is often recognised in the street, though most fans keep a respectful distance.
Keyne’s expressions have become memes across Spain, shared as WhatsApp stickers and even used by Spanish embassies online to celebrate victories. Yamal has spoken of his deep affection for his brother, 15 years his junior, and of the joy in seeing their mother live the life she dreamed of.
Yamal is delighted to have Keyne with him in Dallas on Tuesday, and broadcasters will likely seek him out again to lift the Spanish end. Fernandes Santos believes Spain tend to win when Keyne is around, calling him a talisman, which could worry France.
